The erstwhile Madras & Southern Mahrata Railways , South
Indian and Mysore State Railways were integrated to form the Southern Railway
with effect from 14-4-1951 . It functions under
the powers vested in the Comptroller and Auditor General of India under Articles
148 to 151 and the Comptroller & Auditor General's Duties, Powers and Conditions
of Services (DPC) Act, 1971.
What we do
The Primary function of Principal Director of Audit is to Conduct Audit and
compile the important findings of audit for inclusion in the Audit Report on the
accounts of INDIAN RAILWAYS under Article 151 of the Constitution of India.
The Present audit jurisdiction of office of PDA, Southern Railway comprising six
divisions viz. Chennai, Tiruchchirappalli, Madurai, Salem, Palakad and
Trivandrum Divisions, Three Workshops at Perambur, Golden Rock and Podanur, One
Production Unit at ICF, Chennai 600 038,Construction Units at Egmore,
Tiruchchirappalli, Madurai & Ernakulam and the Traffic and Commercial Control of
entire Southern Railway, Railway Recruitment Cell, Railway Rates Tribunal,
Railway Claims Tribunal, Metropolitan Transport Project, Chennai.
